Symptom
I have a PC or an NAS (network attached storage) device at home with different functions like SVN, bug tracking, media server. I want to access these devices by my domain name (or subdomain). I also want to run a Teamspeak server or a web server on my computer at home.
I have routed my domain (subdomain) to the IP address of my Internet connection, but suddenly I cannot reach my devices any longer.
Cause
As the IP address of an internet connection frequently changes (so called „dynamic IP“), the DNS entry of the domain name that serves the devices on the Internet must be updated accordingly. This is called “dynamic DNS” opposed to “static DNS” where the route never or rarely changes due to static (fixed) IP addresses.
Solution
Dynamic DNS is neither part of a web space plan, nor is it supported by Plesk or configurable in Plesk. For dynamic DNS you will need a provider that specializes on linking domain addresses with frequently changing IP addresses. Examples:
Bitpalace does not recommend any specific provider. The list may be incomplete.
